What is Calvin doing with his hand?

This was a portrait shown at the John Calvin forum by Dr. Maag. She said many people have asked, "What is Calvin doing with his hand?" She gave us the answer. He's pointing to heaven or to God. In a more amusing note Dr. Wittmer said perhaps we could make it a new Christian greeting but then again we have the fish symbols that we put on our cars.

Tomorrow we are celebrating Calvin's birthday at the store. We will be serving cake and if you come in dressed up like Calvin you'll get 25% off your entire order and we'll put your name in a drawing for a collection of books on/by or influenced by Calvin valued at over $350.00. The books were graciously donated by three publishers: Baker Publishing Group, Westminster John Knox and Zondervan.

I thought his hand was saying something like "You must accept the FIRST point before you can move on to the next four."

Paul,

Maybe you're on to something. Maybe it is an "L" and this should remove all doubt about limited atonement. If Dan Brown can do it why can't we?

Looks to me like he might be hailing a taxi cab...

Did many folks come dressed up as Calvin? $350 worth of books is a lot! Was the winner pretty happy?

Andrew,

The winner of our dress up like Calvin contest was Michael R. Stevens (Associate professor of English at Cornerstone University). When I handed him the stack of books he said, "Do I just pick one?" I said, "No, they're all yours!" He was quite surprised. We had a lot of fun that day and we took many pictures. We will post the pictures at a later date. Thanks again to Zondervan for supporting us with the donated books.

Oh, I forgot to tell you that Michael Stevens is co-author with J. Matthew Bonzo of the book "Wendell Berry and the Cultivation of Life: A Reader's Guide", Brazos Press, 2008.

Sounds like fun. I know Dr. Stevens, he's a great guy. I can see him dressing up as big C.
